Composting 101

Join us to learn the basics of backyard composting. Age 18 and up.

Join us and the City of Bloomington's Parks and Recreation to learn the basics of backyard composting. We'll discuss:

• What foods you can compost
• Different setups and methods, from worm bins to tumblers to the ol’ fashioned compost pile 
• Hot composting versus cold composting methods
• “Greens” versus “browns” and how to have a well balanced, healthy compost nutrition ratio
• Composting throughout the year; your methods should adapt to the seasons based on heat, cold, and moisture 
• Methods for maintaining an odorless pest free composting process
• Finishing compost and how to use it in your garden
